Im kind of curious about something. I see lots of news about protests far and wide, having to do with recent events involving police killing unarmed people who happened to also be black. Now, I have known about racial profiling and also about police overstepping their authority for a long time. Others have known about it too. But for some, it is news. Some people remain skeptical about the whole thing. Heres what I am curious about. Why dismiss all these protesters without doing a thorough examination of why they are doing what theyre doing? I mean, these people who are protesting are going out into all kinds of unpleasant weather, risking all kinds of harm. Its the holiday season, when I am pretty sure many of us would rather be indoors making merry, including many of those who are protesting. Dont we at least owe it to them to take a good, serious look at why they are putting themselves out to do this? What could be so important to them, that they are willing to go out in all kinds of awful weather, taking on all kinds of risk? Why dismiss them as just thugs or kooks or whatever? Why dismiss them at all? Why not try taking them seriously, before passing judgement? I mean, for that many people to be that committed to something, I think it at least deserves a good, honest examination, and I dont mean only looking at one source with one point of view. What are people protesting, why do these issues resonate so much with them, that they are willing to inconvenience themselves so much? There must be SOMETHING to it, or why has it caught on as much as it has? Of course, I personally know there is something to it, more than something. But I see people blithely dismissing the protesters without taking time or energy to examine what is really going on, and it makes me tired. Please, people, before you go forming opinions and spouting them, become well informed, look at all sides! Get out of your comfort zone! You might just -- gasp--- learn something.
