Im looking for advice please. Mid January we adopted Dangermouse, now called Saffie, a 6 month old very petite Tortie girl. She has settled brilliantly into our house. She went from hissing and hiding for the first few days to now being a very affectionate and sociable cat who is taking short trips into the garden by herself and generally loving life with us. However, our existing cat, Robbie (neutered male, big fluffy grey boy, 5.5 years) is still very unhappy that she is with us. Although he is a very doted on cat, we hoped that he would accept another cat into the family as a male cat adopted us a while back and he happily shared our home with him for quite some time. Part of the problem is that Saffie absolutely adores Robbie, and will run and meet him with great affection whenever he comes through the door, wants to sleep right next to him, play etc. Sometimes Robbie will play with her, which is a good sign, but he goes through very grumpy spells and pins her down to the ground and looks like he is biting her, which scares me. There is also a lot of hissing and growling. To be fair, she does like to wind him up, and will go for his tail and bat him as he walks past sometimes. Robbie is also extremely grumpy with me at times. He hisses and growls at me, particularly if I try to pick him up (which I used to do frequently). I do try and give Robbie time alone. Saffie is shut in a bedroom at night and sometimes I shut Robbie in a bedroom for a while so he can sleep without being disturbed. I also dont let her eat his food and will evict her from the kitchen if she has finished her dinner before he has. I love having Saffie around, but I am gutted that I seem to have broken Robbies heart and he is a very different and at times unhappy boy now. My next move is to try Feliway. This is £35 from the vets but £15 on Amazon, so as long as Amazon is selling the genuine product it is a no-brainer! Ive owned single cats for a long time but Ive never had two, so any advice will be gratefully received. Thank you
