Im losing faith in many members of my campus community who partake - TopicsExpress

Im losing faith in many members of my campus community who partake in expressing themselves and their beliefs so actively through this anonymous confessions page. Im losing faith in their ability to slow down and think before they type hateful, hateful things from the comfort and safety of their keyboard. Though you may believe so, you are not an activist because you can type fast and full of unfiltered rage to a college confession page. Regardless of your opinions and beliefs and even frustrations with what is happening in the national spotlight, hate fought with hate is no way for UC students to behave, especially the students of a campus who have seen first hand the darkness and despair that untamed hate can lead to. You are naive if you believe what you say on the social media pages has no consequences; your hasty remarks may indeed crush the spirits of your fellow Gauchos. (I dont believe in 20 years you will like the reminder of having those ugly comments on your digital record) Reading the venomous words from students who claim to be seeking a higher education, I hear nothing but white noise. If you want to take stand for something you believe in or if you want to make change, go out into the world and do it. This may be in the form of protest, but it is also not in the form impulsive insults towards peers who do not share the same fervor for your beliefs. Thats life. And if you have issues with others protesting for the rights of civilians, sorry youll have to take it up with the Constitution. Thats also life, but in the USA. But on both sides, this needs to end. Take yourself out of the safety of the Isla Vista bubble, which we already have learned at times is not so safe. Take your mind out of that toxic place which inspires you vomit up words without any consideration for others. I challenge the students who still subscribe to not comment on this post. I challenge you to let an opinion be said without tearing apart the persons inner being. I dare you to mediate on your thoughts before blasting them publicly for others to hear. If you have issues with what is happening in our society or what is not happening, maybe discuss them with your friends, peers, mentors, and try to see new perspectives. The truth is, in our world today information is sent out so quickly and without filtration, we need to allow ourselves the chance to step back and reflect on our own reactions towards them. This doesnt mean never post your opinions online, actually I encourage it; but please for all of our sakes, THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE! At the end of the day, arent we all just trying to survive the next 2.5 weeks? #gauchostrong #gaucholove #gauchopride
