Im lucky to live in a town with a family-owned pet store that will buy culls. They do it only the first Tuesday of each month, and give 1/2 their retail price for whatever fish type. They sell guppies at $3 so I get $1.50 each. Here are ten boys I decided could go today, and I also took ten females, so I got $30. Not a fortune but not bad, and a far preferable way to free up tank space than kill-culling. These guys look pretty sad and less colorful in this video because they just got netted, but I stayed at the pet shop about an hour after they were put into the sales tanks, and made sure they were okay. Just in that time a couple came in and bought five of them. I sure wish I could think of a way to sell directly to local people seeking unique guppies. I tried Craigslist, no luck. Even this pretty awesome pet store Im talking about sells mostly the typical 5-6 strains you see at big box stores (Tequila Sunrise, HB Reds, etc.) I feel like I breed guppies worth more than $3 but yet I wouldnt blame someone for declining to pay more PLUS shipping if I offered them on Aquabid or Ebay. I wish there was a happy medium for people offering (and seeking) neato mutts like mine. :-)
