Im not a basketball fan and I doubt wed agree on virtually anything, but Jabbar just bought creds with me with his reasoned response to the Sterling scandal. Sterlings history, attitude and comments were inarguably despicable, but they were his private comments during what he thought was a private conversation with someone he apparently trusted at some point. The way it has been treated in the press, along with the inevitably ill-considered commentary from Obama and the rash judgment of the NBA commissioner leaves a bad taste in the mouth all around. The collective reactions tell us that we no longer can enjoy real freedom of speech, even in private. Anything we say can and WILL be used against us, in or out of a court of law. Those we trust can record us secretly, use it publicly for the express purpose of humiliating or causing other injury, and expect to get collusion from others in the victims life. This isnt about exposing a crime; its about exposing someones inner thoughts beyond a trust zone. Yes; it has always been the way it is. But now, the technology is universally available, and worse, it has become fashionable. And NO ONE will be safe.
