Im not a card carrying member of the AARP,dont get me wrong Im old enough to be but Im not retired and Im to vain to seek discounts simply because Ive reached a certain advanced age.in the past few weeks its been brought to my attention that foodland has senior discount days,the reason i know this is that the young checkout girls hesitantly ask me if i qualify for the senior discount.i always politely decline it because Im actually not old enough to receive it.the other day i was in line behind a couple who were offered the same the deal and the wife seemed kind of insulted and refused it but her husband was more than happy to claim his discount,maybe she had been a child bride.Im at the age where more and more people call me uncle but Im not yet a kupuna.I look in the mirror and what i see staring back at me is a advanced middle aged bald guy with wrinkles and sun spots who is carrying around more than a little extra weight but i still like what i see.then from time to time i see a photo of me and wonder what happened to that guy that i saw in the mirror,they say that the camera adds a few pounds.in our minds most of us are still young even though there are days that our bodies are more than willing to be completely honest with us,even though Im 57 there are days that i dont feel a day over 80.Im not a grandparent mainly because i was almost 31 when Wren was born and Im not pushing my kids to make me one.dispite of all of this i wouldnt want to go back 20 or 30 years,my body may disagree but i earned all of those things the the hard way and the one thing that i have learned thru all of this is just how much i still need to learn and o yea thru it all God is still good.
