Im not a voter in the seat of Buninyong at the forthcoming - TopicsExpress

Im not a voter in the seat of Buninyong at the forthcoming Victorian elections - and, as someone who grew up and spent half her life in the police state of Queensland under the rule of Joh Bjelke-Petersen, there is no way I could ever cast a vote for a National Party candidate. However, Sonia Smith for Buninyong is proving a bit of a class act in this race. I attended an environment forum she held at Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka a couple of months ago. Amazing! A National Party candidate campaigning on the environment! Then there was a candidates forum at Ballarat Green Drinks this month with Sonia and Rod May,Greens candidate in Ripon, and Geoff Howard, the current ALP Member for Ballarat East which has now become the seat of Buninyong. It was an excellent night with all three candidates quite impressive. Sonia Smith did make an impression. Is this the way for candidates to go - demarc themselves on the basis of difference; on the basis of bucking the party line and uniformity of candidates? If Sonia Smith is successful, it will prove that there is some method in what her party must consider madness. At Green Drinks, Smith made no secret of the fact that she was out to reform the National Party. I wonder what the National Farmers Federation makes of that ambition? Can Sonia dent that major corporate interest? So things are interesting in the seat of Buninyong. Especially when my Fb post below about the dimness of the Liberal candidate, Ben Taylor - Liberal for Buninyong.is taken into consideration.
