Im not against raising awareness for a disease or cause, but when - TopicsExpress

Im not against raising awareness for a disease or cause, but when it comes to the Ice Bucket Challenge, Ive seen hundreds of videos of people getting doused with water, and not a single video of people donating money, time, or effort for the cause. I dislike the challenge because, similar to the Cinammon Challenge a while back, its a big crazy fad people are into so that they can shout and scream and go OH MY GAWD! You ate all that cinammon? OH MY GAWD! You got hit by a bunch of ice water? Its 99% shock value. From a net benefits standpoint, Im sure this challenge has done more good than harm. Im sure a good amount of money and awareness has been raised, Im not gonna hate on that. I cant help but agree though with a quote I saw regarding the challenge from an official concerned with all the water wasted in California during a drought, “Perhaps these idiots can make it the Ice Cup challenge or do something really crazy and actually donate money to the disease?” As a liberal I ultimately dont care too much what people choose to do and why they do it so long as they are not harming others. The idealist in me though wishes kids would stop dumping water on each other under the guise of charity and just go do something charitable. Just my two cents.
