Im not an educator in the traditional sense, so my opinions may be - TopicsExpress

Im not an educator in the traditional sense, so my opinions may be short-sighted. Im convinced that arts focus, critical thinking and social development are absolutely essential in education. Learning environments and curricula that only emphasize strict academics stifle creativity and often produce kids who cant think. I have a kid who struggled academically in school but scored through the roof on the SATs. I dont have all the answers, but I am convinced that a cookie-cutter approach to education, at the very least, leaves many kids behind and diminishes potential. Music, art, interaction, technology, discussion, debate--arent these important? Curious as to your thoughts. Educate ME.
