Im not crazy for mourning a man I never met. I spent more time with his kind eyes, gleeful absurdity, and raw honesty than with all of my aunts and uncles put together. More than Ive spent with lots of people I call dear friends. I keep reminding myself that those characters that have inspired and comforted me are all still there for me. But the fact that the disease that took him has touched pretty much everyone I know looms like a mushroom cloud. Baking a grief cake.
