Im not even going to pretend like these DUI checkpoints do not - TopicsExpress

Im not even going to pretend like these DUI checkpoints do not infuriate me. I am extremely supportive of law enforcement as I know they protect my family and neighborhood and refuse to let a few rotten apples ruin the reputation the agency has. With that being said, I live in a working class neighborhood with a vast majority being first or second hand immigrants. A DUI checkpoint in the neighborhood seems kind of irrelevant and discriminatory. Santa Ana has a Downtown and Art District full of middle-upper class white-privileged hipsters drinking at every bar. If the true motive is to find drunk-drivers, then why not set up checkpoints near West Floral Park (22 & 5 freeway) or South Coast Plaza (405 freeway)? Why the harrasment towards the Latino population? Quite honestly, thats bullshit. Eh dicho!
