Im not going to resort to name calling, and I have never been a sniper. I will say that in difference to what Moore maintains his Marine father said about snipers, they are far from cowards, but rather serve a function in military armaments and warfare. That is to say, that there are different functions for military personnel and the role of a sniper happens to be one that takes advantage of the supreme marksmanship skills of a special breed of service personnel. Now before anyone dismisses this as military bravado, consider that the Revolutionary war was won because of snipers. Thats right, the Continental Army abandoned the conventional war tactics for which the British were so skillful and adopted a longer more accurate rifle used by Kentucky and Tennessee hunters who could pick off key British officers while hiding from behind trees and brushes. Whats more, as weapon technology has improved, different war tactics are required. Now, a jet fighter pilot can fire a missile and destroy a target from well over 20 miles away without ever coming into harms way. Cruise missiles make it possible to engage targets from an even farther discuss. And now unmanned drones are threatening the roles performed by both fighter jets and cruise missiles in previous conflicts. The idea is to terminate the opposition with minimal risk to your own personnel. Ill close by saying, it wasnt a sniper that killed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. it was a person full of hate and disdain for who he was and all that he stood for.
