Im not keen on the Clash of Civilisations narrative that is clearly taking off in the UK. Notice how Government interference has made it worse. Its Her Majestys Government who is preventing people from speaking. Not Muslims or Christians or any other group, its beyond their power to silence in the same way. Ive been threatened by over zealous Islamists, while working on Hallam FM in South Yorkshire. It was a frightening experience but I had the support of Her Majestys Police and a society which believes in free speech. Id not broken any laws or said anything offensive. I just didnt think a magic man in the sky made planet earth. Fortunately, there wasnt a problem in the long term. Quoting Churchill in this context is deliberately obnoxious but shouldnt be illegal. Saying you hate someones religion or their beliefs or whatever isnt nice but still shouldnt be against the law. If it were I could jail loads of people for the mean things they say about Discordianism. Then theres this AWFUL business in Rotherham (ironically the place where the man who made his threats against me was based) which has been covered up in the name of racial harmony. Its still a news story Im getting my head round. 1,400 kids were victim to a paedophile ring which was never tackled because the people there felt sorting it out would make racial tensions worse? Its almost unbelievable but having worked that patch doing a phone in at the time I can imagine it. The lies theyve told have put this problem into their future and our present. And once again its Government power making the problem worse. Theyve done nothing but damage community relations. And in doing so theyve let down both Muslims, Christians, Athiests and victims.
