Im not on board with the current popularity of the term bae. It seems to me that stating that your significant other-ish person comes before anyone else strongly implies that someone else is on the radar. It seems like nothing more than a cop-out for people afraid to commit to a relationship with words like boyfriend and girlfriend either because such terminology mandates that the relationship be exclusive or because of a general fear of commitment. I take this trend as a sign that too many males of my generation are afraid to step up and actually ask a girl out. The same culture which has replaced dates with hanging out, dating with talking, and asking out with swiping right, and which has created an unspoken obligation that the physical aspects of a relationship must occur before any degree of commitment can be expected of the male has now gone a step further and removed the words boyfriend and girlfriend from our collective vocabulary. My entire generation is living in a society which is campaigning to eliminate all aspects of a relationship which actually give the relationship a chance at succeeding. One last note. You might have noticed that I kept using the word males rather than men. That is for the very simple reason that this behavior is contradictory with what it is to be a man.
