Im not one for New Years resolutions, as I said last year, the things people always want to change....tend to be things that are just who they are that honestly, you cant really change. For instance, I would love to be an organized person, BUT IM NOT!!!! And its not because Im lazy, its not because Im not intelligent, its not because I dont care. IM JUST NOT ORGANIZED BY NATURE!!!!!! For years Ive tried to learn ways to be better organized....it never works and I just end up frustrated. I think the best personal New Years resolution is always to be happy with who you are and always aim at being the best you that you can be. But, lets talk about making New Years resolutions for our pets and other animals.....I think these are things that everyone can accomplish. 1. I dont care how young or healthy you are....make a plan for your pets should something happen to you. 2nd Chance 4 Pets has a wonderful list of resources to help you plan at 2ndchance4pets.org/resources.html. 2. Educate yourself on pet nutrition. Everyone goes from one fad diet to another for themselves, but how many people are paying that much attention to what their pets are eating? Pet nutrition can be overwhelming, but it is an essential key to having healthy and happy pets.... so start with the basics and learn to read ingredient lists using this link dogfoodproject/?page=betterproducts. Once you start here....then you can add slowly to your learning experience by reaching things such as supplements and feeding raw, so its not so much information at once. Inevitably, getting overwhelmed, is what causes us to stop moving forward with a resolution. Baby steps, folks. 3. If your pet has behaviors that youve been living with for years thinking that it is what it is......step up to the plate and get help!!!! If you arent happy with their behaviors, likely there is something they arent happy with themselves that is causing the behavior. Research trainers and behavior specialists in your area....make sure and speak with actual references...just like not every therapist is a perfect match for every human...not every trainer or behavior specialist is the perfect match for your pet. No matter where you are located you can always post your questions on the Project REWARD Facebook page and we will do our best to point you in the right direction!!!https://facebook/pages/Project-Reward/404116136394361 For local followers, Project REWARD is here for you in many other ways!!!! 4. If you have a pet that is overweight or out of shape and its not related to a true medical issue that they are struggling with....then, its up to you to change that!!! Your pet cant get proper exercise unless you provide that outlet. If you absolutely have no desire to get out there and exercise your pet yourself, then you owe it to them to find a service in your area that will!!! Whether its a dog walker, dog PT facility or a doggie day gym (yes, one day that is my dream!!!) give them the chance!!! Exercise is good for the body and the mind and can make the world of difference for your pooch!!! And if you know someone who cant physically get out and exercise their pet....be a buddy and visit even just once a week to take that dog on a little fitness adventure...its a win win!!! 5. Find a way to volunteer. If you want to see changes in your area for animal welfare, dont just talk....DO!!!!! Find a way that volunteering works with your schedule!!!! What is your passion? Rescue? Advocacy? There are literally thousands of ways that you can contribute to making a change. petsadviser/animal-welfare/how-you-can-help-animal-shelters-rescues/ volunteerguide.org/opportunities/animals volunteermatch.org
