Im not one to be mesmerized by Hollywood, but Robin Williams, from the time I watched him on Mork & Mindy as a girl, was one of my favorites. The news of his apparent suicide makes me angry and sad and disappointed. Having been raised by a mom who battled depression my entire childhood, I know firsthand what its like to be the family member on suicide watch, worrying over my treasured mom, who maybe only never did it because she was the survivor of at least one sibling who took their life before I was even born. She knew the pain. She knew it was a sentence you give to your family if you make that choice. She knew it was the selfish way out. And she hung on. Maybe for me and her girls. She eventually died too soon anyway, but I have more peace about her passing than I would if she had died by her own choice. Matt Walsh says what I wanted to say and would have said if I had his time and talents. Its worth the read.
