Im not one to cause political controversy on my facebook, nor am I a huge proponent of voicing my political viewpoint, but I read today about Barbara Boxer who is not running for state senate this coming election. She is 74. Our other senator is 81. And the house speaker is 74. I was looking at these ages, and I started to think, shouldnt our elected officials, who we ask to speak on our behalf, reflect, at least in part, the demographic of our nation? The younger generation, our generation, are the ones who are running businesses, and creating new technology that will further our country. Shouldnt the changes in legislature reflect the landscape we wish for our nation? Something my sister mentioned has stuck in my mind. If congress had to make laws that would affect them once they were no longer in office, the legislature being passed would look different. Even our president is only allowed 2 terms in office, for fear it would become a dictatorship. Does it not make sense then, that our congress should have similar requirements? Wouldnt this affect the decisions they are making, and the taxes they are requiring? Whether you are democrat or republican, or independent, do we not have fears that congress will run amok on a power play that doesnt affect them personally because they arent an everyday citizen? Have we not watched TV send CEOs to work in the lowest positions so they understand where the weaknesses are? Wouldnt that be an interesting exercise to watch with congress?
