Im not opinionated on the death penalty either way, but when the fore-fathers of orthodox Christianity like John Calvin and others, were burning people at the stake for heresy, (which is pretty much what happened to Jesus) knowing the scripture that says God wills that none perish and all come to the knowledge of truth what were they thinking? If the heretic was in error (sin) so much so that they deserved to die, were they not going against the will of God by what in their minds would surely be sending them off to eternal punishment? And today in America, where the death penalty is still what purpose does killing people in the name of God and justice serve? In reality I think they are getting off lightly. I guess it sends a message to the world, but what is that message? An eye for an eye is okay? Isnt America built upon Christian ideals?
