Im not really sure I care that much, but it is rather disconcerting to see an editor of a literary journal say something like I just dont read white men any more and then two days later have your submission to their journal declined. To me, this is why things like the VIDA count are utterly bogus. Its all subjective to certain peoples preference, and those people are not obligated to balance out the artists they represent through any arbitrary standard. If an editor decides they hate men, then sorry male writers, try somewhere else. Same for either gender. You just have to learn an editors preference, and submit where you think your chances are most fair for your work. Unless their editorial process is completely transparent, you cant know what things are being said behind the curtain. Well, folks, Ill tell you, the staff of Mojave River Review treats every submission with proper care and respect based solely on the work. You can submit to us without fear of being pigeonholed for any reason. As long as your work is strong, our diverse staff will judge it for the merits of its strengths and weaknesses, and that is all, because the work counts first, always. Submit to us without fear.
