Im not sure Im representative of the readers the DMN is chasing, but Im on pins and needles. Its definitely time for the ed board to reexamine this issue. Frankly, that should have occurred when it came to light that the whole damn 07 referendum was sold on a pack of lies. That brings me to Mr. Hashimotos question: “Two referendums have put a road in that project. Who’s willing to tell the voters they just wasted their time?” The short answer, Mike, is I am. I hope the ed board wont be offended if I add they should be. The will of the People argument that Ive heard parroted by countless Tollway Zombies for the better part of a decade is specious. The voters in 98 categorically DID NOT vote for a giant, honking, flood-walled monstrosity gobbling up the park. They voted for the Kriegerian ideal of a context sensitive, low speed parkway. Unfortunately just like Platonic ideals, Kriegerian ideals dont exist either, at least not with the road hucksters that pass for transportation leaders in this burg. In 07, the voters were so egregiously misled that Im willing to face down anyone who claims that the Underwater Zombie Tollway has EVER enjoyed majority support. Wasnt true in 07, and it is most certainly not true today. Re-run the 07 referendum today, especially now that we know more about the cost and the enormous public subsidy the road would require, and the Tollway Zombies would lose 70%-30%. Anyway, cant wait!
