Im not sure how to put into words my sadness...my heart is hurting as I got word this morning that my cousin, Shelia (53) passed away yesterday at 2 am in her hospital room in Cuenca, Ecuador. She had been in the hospital since around the 5th of Dec diagnosed with a very serious infection that had settled in her heart and several other organs. Our family has spent the past 3 weeks on the phone with the US Embassy, the Ecuadorian Consulate and most importantly, thanks to my dear friend Gloria, she has skyped 3 way calls with the hospital and myself about every other day for nearly two weeks. She could speak to the doctors in Spanish and then interpret and allow me to ask questions. The news on the 24th from the embassy was that Shelia was greatly improved and they were going to bring her out of the induced coma and that hopefully by next week, she would be communicating with us...on the 26th we spoke to the doctor and he said though she was still in critical condition, she was responding to the meds and they would be removing the ventilator within the next couple of days...not even 10 hours later Shelia left this world, her heart just gave out. Shelia is now with our dads and our grandparents, Im certain she is much happier than those of us she left behind. How do you tell your aunt that a her daughter has passed when the day before we were making plans to bring her back in January...that is the hardest thing Ive done in my life. I need to see the footprints in the sand...carry me through this Jesus.
