Im not sure what to say after last nights performance. Waking up this morning knowing that we closed an amazing run of In The Heights together is bittersweet. This summer was transformational for me in my personal life -- I find that the arts heals and connects us to something deeper than we could conceive. It challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, become vulnerable and learn from others you never expected to take lessons from. It wasnt about the show or lights on stage, I can honestly say it was about the process that brought me there. Last week I had the privilege of meeting a few members of the original Broadway cast of In the Heights in New York and all I could hear in my head right now are the words Rosie (ensemble) shared with tears in her eyes to both my brother Kito and I -- she said At the end of it all youll take the experience with you and cherish your castmates as family, because there wont be a show like this one again. And today I understand her words. All these times when you think youre in the ring alone you tend to forget whos in your corner supporting you along the way. The past 5 weeks of performances, looking out into the crowd I was humbled to see those who came out to show their love by simply seating in their seat and watching. I mean people I havent seen in years showed up from grammar school, high school, college, and old co-workers, Im grateful. I may have no hit even note on key or pitch correctly, ad libbed a few lines at times on stage but your presence there meant so much more than it just being about Bebe on stage. I cant thank my parents Brenda & Carlos, my grandma Rosin and Titi Wanda Serrano-Rodriguez enough who faithfully attended all 11 shows, they knew the lines,dances and upcoming acts --- but seeing their face in the crowd day in and out made me complete. My castmates my goodness, we are FAMILIA -- we fought, cried, laughed, loved and experienced why it was all worth it., we did it together
