Im not sure you all want to read the following but heres a report from south Eugene. An interesting year end event this morning in my neighborhood. At 7:32 a.m. I witnessed an American Crow attack, kill, pluck, and consume a Varied Thrush. I noticed my daughters cat peering intently out the window (indoor cat, of course) when I caught the unfolding events. The Crow attacked the Thrush on the ground and killed it with bill strikes to the head and chest. It then proceeded to pluck feathers just like I have seen raptors do. I shot these images through the window because when I ventured outside with the camera the Crow flew up into a nearby tree. After consuming some of the Thrush the Crow picked up what remained and flew off, likely to a less open place. I have heard of this behavior before in Crows but never witnessed it.
