Im not well-versed in art history, but feel compelled to engage it, to read about it and soak it in, so that I may join myself more succinctly into it. What is jumping out most readily is how subjective all of the analysis is. The historian is attempting to make true statements about the significance or symbolism in a piece of art, or even in a whole movement, but Im seeing this as a largely foolish and arbitrary exercise. They take what they are saying entirely too seriously, but I wont. Instead, I will primarily let it energize me, so that I can more engagingly spin off into the possible meanings that emerge in the course of my own meditations, in my own perceptions of others inspired art-outpourings, as well as those that Im inspired to make. Truth neednt always be a rigid, academic enterprise. It can be spirited, playful and fun as well.
