Im on a roller coaster of emotions regarding the recent death of Ralph Wilson Jr. I am a Buffalo Bills fan. Have been all my life. I grew up in St. Catharines where Buffalo sports was what you talked about on the playgrounds. My Mom would take me to Rich Stadium to watch the likes of Joe Ferguson and Joe Cribbs. I remember driving back over the border after a Bills Sunday with my Mom and brother listening to the 69th Grey Cup with the Ottawa Roughriders vs. Edmonton Eskimos, with the great Tony Gabriel playing the game of his life with bad knees. I was dumbfounded that the Riders were in the Grey Cup with a losing record and the Bills were, well the Bills, and not really in the mix for the Super Bowl. Later in my teenage years Thee Bills played a major roll in my social life, and the love of food. The drinking age in NY was 18 and bus trips to Rich Stadium introduced me to Sundays, beer, barbeque, being with friends and not having a care in the world until the game is over and you have to start thinking about Monday. I have been through the ups of 4 Super Bowl appearances, and the downs of going 13 years without a playoff game. I have taken the brunt of criticism from other teams fans/bandwagoners with a grain of salt knowing that one day Thee Bills will make the playoffs again. The goal posts will be torn down. Years of silence will burst in the form of the most arrogant annoying fan ever. Now that Ralph Wilson Jr. has passed and there is a new lease signed with the county of Erie NY for 10 years I am excited, and saddened about the future of Thee Buffalo Bills, where they might end up, and what type of ownership group that will take over. I am a Buffalo Bills fan, and my love and hate for this organization is a beautiful thing.
