Im picking up wisdom from wherever I can when it comes to raising my girls. Yesterday a coworker shared with me something that I will definitely try to use when the time comes in shaa Allaah. She told me about a brother that has 2 boys and 1 girl. He spoils the girl for different reasons than most and in a way different than most. He takes her out for a manicure and pedicure once a month, takes her out on daddy dates regularly and brings her flowers often. His reason: Im not gona let the first idiot that comes and tries to get with her do any of this for her and it be something new for her. So basically, tell her shes beautiful, tell her shes beautiful, take her out, buy her gifts and flowers periodically and any man that comes, not only has to GO THROUGH dad, but has to try and OUT DO dad on top of that. Awesome. Hopefully, then, the standard becomes much higher than simply being cute, nice, and/or funny. Of course this is not the ultimate solution to the fears that us fathers have for our daughters being duped by some dumb bag, but its a great tool towards building that much needed security and trust between you. A friend also told me about what his dad used to do with him and his siblings before he passed away. He would take each of his children out and have alone time with each one. They would do simple things like go to the park, get ice cream, just talk sometimes. But, as my friend describes it, it meant more than the world to him. It was the best thing ever. May Allaah protect our children. Ameen.
