Im pretty sure that Ive posted this before, but its time to post it again since this is July 4. This is Elvis performing Mickey Newburys American Triology on January 14, 1972. Elvis performed this medley many times during the 1970s, but this is my favorite of those performances. The venue was Honolulu, Hawaii. This was the first program of any kind to be beamed by satellite completely around the world. It was viewed by over a billion people in 40 different countries, and it was viewed by more people than any other program in television history. As was typical during all of Elvis concerts during the 1970s, Elvis was backed up here by the legendary J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet. They took the lead for a bit. The trumpets, bass trombone, and solo flute were stellar. Note how Elvis and the instrumentalists fed off of each other. RIP, Elvis! Tagging my friend, Brother John Lavaki. Glory, glory, hallelujia! His truth is marching on! https://youtube/watch?v=vWVgLLnGaWs
