Im pretty sure that sales of health insurance are booming right now for reasonably healthy people who buy their own insurance. If you buy coverage effective 12/1/2013, you can lock in pre-2014 rates for the next 12 months, forgo the penalty for nonconforming coverage, and postpone sticker shock for a year. Its like getting a one-year waiver. Im saving $4,400. Maybe in a year from now, someone in Washington will figure out how to make ACA live up to its name because, right now, I dont know anybody who thinks it does. I have a message for Washington too: Its not the cost of insurance thats the problem, its the underlying cost of care! Doctor, hospital and drug costs are too high! Incent them to deliver the right care, at the right time, at the right place, at the right cost, and youll bend the cost curve down. Absent that, ACA will never achieve its goals. The math simply does not work. Stop trying to fool us. I would also challenge the scientific community to double efforts to cure cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, Alzehimers, and a few of the other diseases that drive 90% of the cost. And to all you couch potatoes out there--get moving! Your expanding waist lines are not only hazardous to your health, but driving unnecessary costs.
