Im proud that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors just voted - TopicsExpress

Im proud that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors just voted unanimously to pass our groundbreaking Fair and Predictable Scheduling Ordinance for retail workers, which my office spent more than a year crafting with a broad coalition that included worker advocates, labor representatives and employers. Once signed into law, this legislation will form the cornerstone of the San Francisco Retail Workers Bill of Rights that Supervisor Eric Mar and I have worked on all year. While our economy has done well for many, we still have too many workers and families in low-wage jobs with unpredictable shifts, part-time limbo and barriers to a solid career ladder. In the midst of our citys affordability crisis, we heard from too many part-time workers who cant tell their families in any given week when they will work and how much they will earn, who struggle to juggle multiple jobs when work hours are unpredictable. Among other provisions, our legislation will required that for formula retail employers with 20 or more employees in San Francisco and 20 or more locations worldwide, their workers receive advance notice of their schedules, with fair predictability pay if last-minute scheduling changes are made, and their part-time workers have equal access to promotions, hourly wages and time-off. The passage of this legislation represents a crucial step forward for San Francisco’s hardworking, part-time and low-wage workers. In the city that first led on living wage, universal health care, sick leave and family friendly workplace policies, Im proud that the City of St. Francis is once again leading the nation on an issue that impacts so many. bit.ly/1zWeRw3
