Im rather disturbed by some of the posts and comments that Im seeing regarding the Eric Garner case, after the jurys decision to not indict the officer who caused his death. What I am noticing is that many who were on the side of Officer Darren Wilson, are now automatically taking the side of the officer in this case, by automatically assuming that the police are right in their actions here also. PLEASE take the time to review the FACTS before jumping to conclusions...or you will be no better than the race-baiting chuckleheads who had their minds made up before actually looking at the facts with the Brown-Wilson case. Heres some facts you might not be aware of: The 43-year-old was stopped by NYPD officers in July for allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes. In the video, the officer, Daniel Pantaleo can be seen placing the asthmatic man in a choke-hold, which is a tactic prohibited by NYPD policy. The man begins to yell that he could not breathe over and over. According to an eye-witness, his “head hit the concrete, his eyes rolled back in his head, and he kept saying he cant breathe, and didnt breathe anymore… [then] saliva came out of his mouth with blood.” This isn’t the first time that this officer had been involved in similar incidents. Court records show that within the past two years, three men sued Pantaleo in federal court over allegedly unlawful, racially motivated arrests. Another unfortunate detail is that when EMS responded to the scene, none of them attempted CPR on the man. The officers and medical personnel just stood there looking over the man. Four of the EMS personnel which included two EMTs and two paramedics were suspended without pay following the incident. Additionally, the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the incident a homicide. At the BARE MINIMUM this officer should have been indicted on manslaughter charges. (Which is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice aforethought, either express or implied) Although I was on the side of Darren Wilson in a case which was similar, I cannot support law enforcement in this case. If the Ferguson riots were close to dying out, you can bet that the decision to not indict this officer will be like pouring gasoline on the embers of unrest, further dividing us along racial lines. We all need to take a moment and make sure we aren’t fueling the fire.
