Im reading Feminine Threads: Women In The Tapestry of History and was fascinated by what Diana Severence wrote about Phoebe (Romans 16:1), who was most likely a single woman and a business woman: When Paul heard of her plans to travel to Rome, he used the opportunity to write a letter for her to take to the Roman Church, which he had not yet visited. When one thinks of the tremendous impact of Paul’s letter to the Romans throughout Christian history, exemplified by the conversions of Augustine, Martin Luther, and John Wesley, through this part of Scripture, Phoebe’s faithful transmittal of the letter to the Roman Church takes on added significance. Who know what simple errand you might faithfully perform today that will have a significant impact for years to come.
