Im reading a book on Norse Mythology right now. Ever the student of anthropology, things like that interest me, and oddly enough interest me much more these days. I generally relate to my Danish-Viking ancestry, and this is definitely something I spend more time doing. Looking at their culture and belief system. The Christian concept of Hell for instance is borrowed directly from Norse Mythology for instance, except its Hel, daughter of the mischievious Loki, and ruled over by the Hel who was put there by Odin. It is amazing how much is borrowed from Norse Mythology into contemporary religious beliefs. What is more interesting is how this mythology might actually be true - that is based on human anthropoligical events. The ice giants who give the gods so much trouble, might actually have been the Neanderthals. Reminds me of the work of Dr. Jacob Brownoski where he discusses the two people who coexisted in Europe at one point. The Cro-magnons and the Neanderthals. High time I rewatchded his brilliant documentary series again The Ascent of Man, a piece of British TV brillaince from 1973. Oddly enough the two peoples supposedly descend from Chimpanzees and Gorillas respectively. Mythology, is often just how our ancestors explain things they did not understand...
