Im reading where BOTH Windows 8 and the later Windows 8.1 have - TopicsExpress

Im reading where BOTH Windows 8 and the later Windows 8.1 have been compared by various O/S [Operating System] critics as, and I quote, ... in the same boat as the New Coke, Coke Classic and Coke II which was a costly marketing disaster [the original Coca-Cola formula being supposedly modified] for the Coca-Cola company. Ditto Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 which various other O/S analysts term, another Windows Vista .... like Fords Edsel! [!] According to one source, here is the present breakdown: The most popular Microsoft O/S appears to be Windows 7 with Win 7 Home Premium edition [64 bit] in the lead followed by Win 7 Professional edition [64 bit] .... the percentage share of Win 8 is 5.93%% and for Windows 8.1 , 6.81%. The majority of Microsoft HOME [versus business] O/S users [based on surveys] are using ==either== Windows XP [XP Pro in the lead for XP although XP has essentially been displaced by Win 7 and its general popularity with users] or the much more popular for home users, Windows 7 Home Premium edition [64 bit]. WHY Microsoft did such a radical change in their traditional GUI [Graphical User Interface] is anyones guess! Put simply, Instead of taking the very best of two proven O/S workhorses, viz., Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 Home Premium =or= Win 7 Home Pro edition, a ... radical new approach .. [thats wordage by Microsoft itself by the way] was undertaken [in Win 8 and 8.1] and now, so say various O/S analysts, Microsoft executives are scratching their heads as to why Win 8 or the allegedly improved Win 8.1 is not having the popularity with the masses [HOME users] that the previous Win XP and Win 7 had and the disturbing news that far too many new computer buyers are specifically asking for Win 7 installations versus the newer Win 8 or Win 8.1 ! Supposedly, Microsoft got desperate once again and like they did in 2012, they began to force their Microsoft licensees [companies who sell new computers with O/S, viz., Win 7 at the time, already pre-loaded on the machine] to stop pre-loading Windows XP and ==only== use Win 7 -- and which Microsoft got away with but now people are ==not== embracing Win 8 or the supposedly imroved Win 8.1 and apparently Microsoft is getting the classic message and mostly from home computer users of the old axiom ... why fix what is not broken and what works! Good question! The touch system tablet approach [see pics of the Win 8 and Win 8.1 opening screen]. Me, Im solidly sticking with Win 7 as Win 8 and Win 8.1 users keep producing a veritable laundry list of bugs and assorted problems or the farce of having to additionally purchase so called Microsoft Pro Packs to get support for such commonly used programs such as the WMP [Windows Media Player] where various required codecs have been dropped and one has to fish the internet or, even worse, separately purchase Win 8 or Win 8.1 O/S add-ons for certain media playing! What was so wrong with the older Windows [XP and Win 7] O/S interface? Indeed, why fix what is not broken! And which has a proven track record of both reliability and performance around the world from millions upon millions of world wide users?
