Im really excited about this new project. Its more of an experiment in generative art than a usual music video, and a close up view of seething cellular growth. Andy has developed a system that simulates from 1 up to several million cells, each responding to nutrients, light and mechanical forces as they divide. Depending on how the starting parameters are set, the resulting structures can be very different, but often with familiar biological resemblances, presumably because the rules of the simulation are similar to those operating in real organisms. The video also develops to show some of the specific factors driving the cell division process, as colours - 02:01 -- 04:28 : Blue overlay indicates regions of new cellular division 02:34 -- 03:09 : Magenta overlay indicates accumulated nutrient levels in each cell 03:09 -- 03:39 : Red overlay indicates number of photons hitting each cell And how the simulated light source drives cell division can be summarised as - 00:04 -- 04:41 : Nutrient created using omni-directional diffuse light 04:41 -- 05:50 : Nutrient created using light from directly above growing forms
