Im really mad at things right now. I just wrote out a post about Steven Hawkings statement that black holes dont exist. It was so hard for me to write, that it made my head hurt. I clicked outside of the share window, and it disappeared. Im going to try to re-create it now, but I am so upset that I dont know if I can even get my brain to do it again. here goes... Hawking says that classical physics supports the idea of the event horizon (the point of no return), but quantum physics does not. He concluded that the event horizon is not real, and that this new finding changes the way we must think about collapsed stars. So, to accelerate a massy object, to the speed of light, it would take the combined energy of every bit of matter in the universe, including the object you are trying to accelerate. So, no object can reach the speed of light before it loses all of its mass, at which point, it is no longer an object. The event horizon is supposed to be the point where the gravitational forces of a collapsed star are strong enough to stop light in its tracks, and even reverse its direction, trapping it forever. However, since it would take a force equal to the entire amount of matter/energy in the universe to stop that photon (massy particle of light), then the gravity of a collapsed star would never be able to accomplish such a feat. That is, unless gravity can create a force greater than the combined energy/matter in the universe. So, the most that a collapsed star could do would be to alter the direction of light. It could pull it into an temporary and unstable orbit, but it would never be able to trap it. This effectively makes the event horizon an impossibility, and thus, the end of the black hole in physics.
