Im really proud of myself. Earlier today I went to Target to pick up some house cleaning essentials. While cruising through the store I passed thru the furniture you assemble department and spotted one lonely TV stand box on a shelf. Original price $179. The picture on the box looked very appealing and the dimensions were right not only for a nice-sized TV but also other audio-video goodies and other stuff. Now the good part: There was a marked down price of $69. And then another price tag in the corner of $35. Obviously an error, I thought. Could I possibly get by the cashier by pointing to the $35 price tag? Well I loaded the big heavy box onto the bottom rack of the cart by sliding it off the shelf and onto the rack, and maneuvered my way to the check out, trying hard not to destroy anyones ankles. I put my cleaning supplies on the check out stand first and then said to the cashier I have a big box here, too heavy to lift up. The price is $35 -- and thats the smallest price tag on the box. The cashier responded -- the price tags dont matter, I have to scan the bar code. So she came around the counter and using a portable scanner she scanned the bar code. THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS, THATS THE PRICE she said firmly. Yes it is, I said. Thank you. And since I am old and weak and have lots of gray hair, two Target men gladly followed me to my car to load it in. What a nice day at Tar-jay. And tomorrow I hope to tell you about how my son Jason gladly assembled it for his old, old man.
