Im *reasonably* tech savvy, but ... my useless eyes mean Im pretty tech-unaware, these days. That said, I had two problems to solve, and looked to the market for solutions. And I found them :-) 1) My notebook runs Firefox. Firefox sucks memory ... I mean ... from the NEIGHBORS house (!). None of the fixes did much about it, EXCEPT .... this application: afterdawn/software/network/browser_add-ons/rizonesoft_firemin.cfm The reduction in RAM used is staggering. No degradation in performance. Possibly, a slight improvement ! NOTE: IM PRETTY SURE THAT -- WHEN *I* DOWNLOADED IT (from CNET, Im pretty sure), IT DOWNLOADED SOME UNWANTED (BENIGN) APPS, SO ... YOU MAY WANT TO DO A CUSTOM INSTALLATION (vs. EXPRESS), AND DE-SELECT ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULDNT WANT (eg, search engine and toolbar stuff). 2) Moms house is a virtual Faraday Cage (Hi, Sarah !!). 3G is brutal, here. WiFi is unreasonably tough. I tried this Android App: https://play.google/store/apps/details?id=com.bosscellular.wifi.boost And it seems to have made a SIMILAR substantial difference. No more climbing up onto the roof and standing on milk crates to make/take cellular calls. Clear reception, even when hiding under the bed -- my default position, these days LOL ! Both were freeware. No financial interest in either product. Just a happy customer :-)
