Im reposting this news story as a deeply concerned citizen of Tulsa. Its a story that our city has heard before...there is great fiscal malfeasance at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. What I dont understand is why the people who are concerned with the matter continue to repeat the same actions, expecting different results. Last I checked, that was the definition of Insanity. About 1:20 into this video clip, reporter Janna Clark states, Fox23 reported back in 2012 that, under his (Jason Mackintosh) leadership, the Jazz Hall owed thousands in utility bills. Donors saved the day then. This Thursday night, there is going to be one hell of a show at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Many of my dear friends and some of Tulsas finest talents will be gathering to say Thank You, to the OKJHOF. The purpose of this benefit is the same as the one held back in 2012: to raise the funds to pay off thousands of dollars in debt incurred by the current administration, led by Executive Director, Jason Macintosh. Next Monday, August 18, there will be a meeting of the Tulsa County Industrial Authority in Rm. 315 of the Tulsa County Administrative Bldg., 500 S. Denver, at 10:30am. Here is the agenda: tulsacounty.org/Agenda/2014/8122014-August18%2C2014TCIndustrialAuthority-Agenda.pdf Item 3 reads: Review, discuss and take action on Lease with Jazz Hall of Fame covering the Union Depot Building and authorize the Chairman to take such action as may be necessary or required in connection therewith; Review, discuss and take action on the enforcement of the provisions of the Lease and authorizing the engagement of such professionals as the Chairman deems necessary to accomplish such results. Its the only detailed item on the agenda and I hope, if you are as concerned about this issue as I am, you will choose to not share your dollars with the current incarnation of the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame until we see what is to become of it. This meeting is open to the public. In the end, I know that every one of us...me, the folks doing the benefit, the County Commissioners and even Jason Mackintosh...want the same thing: a healthy and thriving Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. But its never been that. I believe...and this is just one career entertainers opinion...that the OKJHOF needs to be restructured with a whole new group of folks at the helm. I think they need at least 2 people at the top, one administrator and one artistic head, both for efficiency and for balance. Or maybe a partnership with a local University would make sense...I dont know. I sure dont want to run it! :-) All I know is Im tired of watching people throw good money after bad and Im tired of watching the reputation of the OKJHOF becoming increasingly stained on local, state and national levels. I figured that if, for now, Im going to be one of the only musicians publicly speaking out about it, Id take the time to really say how I feel. Thanks for listening. And...maybe some of you will speak up, too?
