Im sad to say that a gigantic chunk of my visual creative influences cite the movie from the 1920s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari as one of their influences, and Ive never seen it until tonight. Its so easy to dismiss any creative decision in art made 90 years after they were first tried and copied incessantly, but.... to the original we owe the credit. This movie is absolutely gorgeous. To see the beginnings of all Universal Horror movies, the goth movement of the 80s along with Mike Allreds comics from the 90s.and 00s all in something from 20s is inspiring. Who knows what would have happened if they didnt pave the way. Thank you, Dr. CALIGARI!
