Im sat with a friend and we have justo been discussing the project and a new idea just came up... So many homeless people are moved-on from city centres to protect the aesthetic and trade of the businesses, but this is putting trade before human life... So, what if I minuscule tariff were added to the business rates charged by the local county councils, specifically to pay towards a homeless shelter in each city where those living rough on the streets could get food, hot water and shelter? Yes, of course, county councils should already be providing these items, but they fail to do so too often - they are even cutting services for the homeless.. Companies like Burger King and McDonalds apparently charge 20p for a cup of hot water - to deter homeless people entering their premises (so Ive been told). Would it not be better for these businesses to involuntarily pay for a shelter? The Julian Trust night shelter in Bristol can operate on £58,000 per year... How hard would it be to raise more than double that from the businesses operating in any town centre?
