Im seeing a lot of ebola stuff in my feed today. I havent weighed in on it yet. One side saying that its wrong to stop traffic in and out of country - others crying the end is nigh... Im solidly in the close the border camp, because well never completely close it - but if we aim for close - we can at least generally contain. Here are some of my thoughts. Feel free to flip out on me. I believe the best thing to do is to limit as much travel in and out of the country as possible. Customs checks everyones passport upon returning to the US. If someone has been to a country where theres ANY reported cases, they should go to a quarantine until medically cleared. Sure, it sounds harsh - but were talking about public safety. We have how many days before it becomes a flat out uncontrollable global pandemic? How close to that day, do we wait to close border? What if we find out afterward, we waited too long? But face it - port travel (air / sea / bus) is only one problem (granted its the one we have the most control over) but until we can secure our borders - we will not be safe. (I bet N. Korea doesnt have an Ebola scare right now. Granted, they have bigger problems like dysentery, and influenza... ) How about we ALL start following a simple rule. UNTIL THIS WHOLE THING IS OVER - if its WET, and its NOT YOURS --- DONT TOUCH IT. MY UNDERLYING POINT - I dont worry about terrorists with dirty bombs - I worry about terrorists using what funding they have (including subversive government funding, See: IRAN, etc...,) to exploit the problem and get it across the US Border. If they were smart enough to plan 9/11 when we werent paying attention, and have scientists who can work on dirty bombs - then I believe they have scientists who are smart enough to do this. Gives suicide bomber a whole other meaning, doesnt it? How many radicals, who have intentionally infected themselves, have to leak across the border, or come back home from another country, before were screwed? Sound crazy? Yeah, so does wearing a vest of C4 and ball bearings with a dead man switch - yet, it still happens. Problem is; this isnt as detectable as a suicide vest, and can kill SO many more people. I appreciate the CDCs efforts, but Im more concerned with what the Pentagon, CIA, and Homeland Security are doing right now...
