Im seeing a lot of people posting videos of the police making forceful arrests along with captions that imply the police are being unnecessarily forceful. What I would like to mention is that the police dont just show up to a scene randomly, looking for a specific individual and then forcefully arrest them. They are sent to a scene as a result of a call or complaint or as a result of work done by detectives. When a police officer approaches a suspect with the intent of arresting them, the suspect must comply fully and not resist. The street is not the place to plead your case. Innocence is not decided by the officer or suspect, it is decided by a Judge. The police are in place to maintain a civil and stable society. They have a job to do and part of that job is to take suspects into custody to have their case heard before a judge. If a suspect does not comply and resists arrest, force needs to be used to secure the suspect. Wrongful arrests are a terrible thing, as is excessive force. If a suspect is wrongfully arrested, they will have an opportunity to file a case against the municipality that is at fault. It is not decided at the scene. Guilty or not, we all must comply with the police, period. Doesnt seem fair if you are being falsely accused but again, that is for a judge to decide. A bad situation only gets much much worse for everyone when a subject resists.
