Im seeing the same pattern crop up across everything. Public discourse is anchored in extremes responding to extremes (because thats what gets clicks and eyeballs and shares), and this crowds out more nuanced discussion that would actually benefit the world. - GMOs becomes about Anti-Science instead of about keeping companies responsible and testing effects carefully and systematically. - Crossfit becomes about nuts and cults and not about addressing the actual CF cultural trend that encourages people to push themselves too far (plus all the good things that come from exercising with a supportive group of people). - ISIS becomes about extremist muslims and the problem with Islam and not about underlying causes and identity and how best to respond given what we have learned in the past 13 yrs. - Israel + Gaza becomes about who is twisting the media and not about establishing PEACE. - Mansplaining becomes about caricatures of egotistical men and not about power dynamics and awareness of various conversation styles and how to match your partners. Reminds me of when everyone was distracted watching Duck Dynasty things and meanwhile National Defense Authorization Act was fast-tracked through the Senate (investmentwatchblog/while-america-was-distracted-by-duck-dynasty-ndaa-2014-fast-tracked-through-senate-with-list-of-votes/#JT8CIyRA374k7Igp.99). Thoughts?
