Im shaking my head at many of the conversations taking place around this Barneys incident. Were EXPERTS at missing the point and talking about EVERYTHING except that which matters! Lets be clear on a few things! For the We dont need to be shopping at Barneys....dont spend your money where they dont love us folk. Guess what? They dont want US shopping in Walmart! They dont love or want us there...or anywhere! There have been incidents of discrimination against Black people shopping in stores from Payless and Walmart...eating in IHOP...or shopping at Barneys. That young man could have been purchasing a pair of $30. sneakers from Walmart and the SAME thing could have happened..and it has! For the JayZ needs to cancel his deal with Barneys folks. Lemme say this, Im SO glad Im not a celebrity because Id take to Twitter and CUSS yall self righteous folk OUT! Yes, wed like for other folks to be activist for us! Such a waste of time! Were clearly disconnected from the realities of systemic racism and how IMPOSSIBLE it is to do ANYTHING in this society and not support institutions that have benefitted from the suffering of Black people around the world. So for those of you with Wachovia or Chase bank accounts, since were not supporting institutions that dont love us you might wanna close your shit TODAY because both of these institutions, among MANY OTHERS, benefitted GREATLY from the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Just about everywhere we go, everywhere we shop, every piece of clothing we wear, etc...in some way, supports and sustains systemic oppression! NEXT! And yes...the these kids have no business buying these expensive items.... Hip Hop is responsible for this..it teaches kids to be materialistic folk. SIGH! People can purchase what they want to purchase. THAT IS NOT THE POINT! Having conversations about value systems (slippery slope) and not referencing the environment (that PREDATES HIP HOP) these children are reared in, disqualifies you from intelligently engaging that conversation. (Unfortunately it doesnt stop you from trying.) What we miserably fail to face and address... incident after incident, despite the loss of lives and incidents of police brutality and discrimination and hatred...is that we have an ENEMY. PERIOD, BOTTOM LINE! It does NOT matter where you shop or how much it costs, it doesnt matter what you where or drive, what you know or where you learned it...your ENEMY wants you, Black person DEAD or in his JAIL! PERIOD! And hes built a SYSTEM of oppression aimed at making THAT happen. We BEGGED him to stop showing us who he REALLY IS, so its much more difficult (for some -_-) to detect. This trend of blaming the victim has done more damage than we realize! We can engage in black public shaming...continue conversations about the value system of Black people....encourage young black people to get their shit together....we can do all of that...but what well be called to face, over and OVER again, is our unwillingness to face this difficult truth and establish ourselves as a nation of people, surrounded by other nations of people. THAT would require plans (cause we have the money) to implement feeding, clothing, sheltering, educating and securing those people FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUSTAINING THAT NATION! I get it, its too much! So, wed rather picket Barneys! Good luck with that!
