Im sharing an article which is a great read whether the topic is relevant to you or not. Written by Ellen Stimson author of Mud Season one of the funniest books Ive ever read. Heres an excerpt, When my daughter, Hannah, was a teenager, she and her girlfriends hung out at our house. I would cook for them. There were plenty of homemade pizzas, and delivering the slices meant that I could pop in and out of their gabfests. I loved listening to them. This generation of young women with big dreams was so self-assured. They considered being lawyers and senators and actors. They planned on eliminating capital punishment and starring on Broadway…maybe both at the same time. Still, they had the same kinds of conversations about boys that I’d had when I was their age. And I had learned some stuff that they hadn’t yet. They were constantly talking about how this boy was “perfect, except….” The list of exceptions was long. You can just play the tape can’t you? So, I told them the prom dress story. “You know how when you go shopping for your prom dress you usually kind of have one in mind?” I asked. “Maybe, you want a big sugary concoction of a dress with lace and tulle. Possibly in your favorite rosy pink? You go shopping and you find the perfect dress. It has layers of silk and a lovely lacey overlay with tulle peeking out the bottom. Now, it is kind of a muddy green color. And, it is a size two. You are a size six. But except for that … It. Is.
