Im sitting here having a cold one in a little oilfield boomtown very similar to where I grew up. Which is way down a country road in Alaska in a town most of you couldnt pronounce right. I remember them putting waste oil on the road to keep the dust down when I was a kid. I also remember the picket lines and the hard times when they came in and drove the Unions out. I still get confused when people refer to me as an expert. I dont think Im as smart as half the men who trained me. I still feel guilty when I run up a tab on a company card because Id rather they use the money to feed the people doing the real work. But thats not how this business runs, and it never will. I was supposed to be on vacation and I guess I kind of wish I had. Theres a lot of times I miss that old country road, and tonight is one of those times. I dont really know how I got from there to here sometimes. One of these days maybe Ill sit down and figure it out. Its been a good run so far, Ive got more family and friends than I deserve, and Im thankful for it. Im a lucky guy.
