Im sitting here teaching a group of tough high school students - TopicsExpress

Im sitting here teaching a group of tough high school students that have done time. Some of them were distracted, and talking about non-school/inappropriate things. Its math, so I start playing some music. Im flipping through my playlist, and Andrae Crouchs Through It All pops up. I mention that this was played at my mothers funeral, and they fold like little kids. The toughest one is like,WAIT--you dont play around with--are you SERIOUS??? I know it was my mothers spirit that came through to help me reach these kids. I was just randomly trying to see what song to play. She came back and touched us. It was a very emotional moment, where we all got in touch, and really real. Ive just started the 2nd of 2 more hours with them. Theyre quietly working, and NOBODYS joking around. Thanks, Mom. I really miss you. Through it all, my sister and I wouldnt be who we are without you. I realize my children are missing the grandparents we grew up with. Well keep your memory alive for them. You reached out and touched these kids-giving them hope-and the opportunity to dream of a better life, just as you did when you were physically here. Your influence continues. Your work. Continues. You mattered. You matter.
