Im sitting here with thoughts and emotions that I havent felt in many many years. 24 years ago today changed the lives of many of us forever? Ironically Im back sitting Saudi, literally less than 100 miles from our defensive positions on a business trip. I recall this like it was yesterday. I remember looking into the sky and seeing and hearing more aircraft than I can recall ever seeing at any one time, and they were all flying north. That was just over 4 hours from now. As I watched those planes heading north all I could think about was the safety and security of my family who were Germany. We were deployed in what I saw as the most god forsaken land that we had never ventured with nothing but sand and desert in all directions with lots of unknowns. The one thing knew for sure was we were prepared and were ready to follow the orders issued by the President. Every year I quietly look back in remembrance all the brave soldiers I was deployed with and think about things we did on that memorable day. But this year I suppose because of where I am it takes on a different feeling. I recall watching the aircraft every night all night wondering when we would start our movement north to end this war. I was just out walking around the compound and found myself constantly looking up.... Four hours from now, 0230 17 January was the official start of Desert Storm...
