Im sitting on the toilet, browsing the internet. I watch a trailer for an upcoming horror film. It seems exciting. Horror and mayhem occurs, screaming and creatures appearing. As the trailer ends with a final shock and the sound fades, I hear, from inside my own home, the sound of running feet and a childs high-pitched singsongy voice. Im pants less, on the toilet, feeling very vulnerable at 2am. in my dark home where everyone else is supposed to be sleeping. I call out. Whos out there? Whos awake?? No one answers. The house is still. Drake? Oksana? OJ?? Nothing. My heart is pounding and on the toilet is not the ideal place to play out any of the zombie apocalypse / madman breakin scenarios Ive planned out in my head over the years. I finish my business quickly and cautiously emerge. Its dark and still. Doors are locked, everyone is asleep. Except me. So Im sitting here with all the lights on, wide eyed, and Im NEVER SLEEPING AGAIN.
