Im so McColl, I played in the OLD McColl High School gym, remember when the Rock n Roll Express and the Midnight Express wrestled in the new gym, climbed on bunkers of carpet at Covington Fabrics, turned my bottles in at Huey McLucas gas station, we got our heating oil tank filled up from his red tanker truck, got my weight and fortune for a penny from his scales on the front porch of the store. Played pool with Lonnie Joe Brigman in his pool barn he opened up behind the store and made sure I always lost so he wouldnt kick my ass. Played pool in the pool hall thats now the Village Grocery, and ate burgers and played pool at Bobby s Pool Room. Shopped for carpet with Momma at Geddes and Sons Carpet. Had my cars and trucks fixed at Mumford s Garage and Webster s Garage. Used to hang out at Bobby Wards Garage and keep my buddies Mike Locklear and Chuck Rogers from doing their work. Im so McColl I remember when Roger Turner died and Nic s had a sign in front that said Well miss you Mr. T. I swam at Mr. Billy Vereen s house, visited Mr Dick and Mrs. Patsy Tatum, Mr. Joe Brown McCollum and Mrs. Elaine. Climbed on top of the old McColl High School. Camped out in the old McColl High School football fields announcer box, helped lay tar down on the roof of the old McColl Primary School, swam at Dr. Loves, fell in love with Dr. Loves granddaughter, fished at Ed McGraw s pond on Bunch Road, played in the spooky basement of Main Street Methodist Church, got my first sugar from Billy Cheeks daughter (who said I kissed like a movie star), got my second sugar on a hay ride from a girl from the Church of God (who said I did much better), leaned how to fight on Freeman road, I know exactly where the quarter mile begins and ends on Briar Patch Rd., and I played ball at the old ball park, not the new one. Im so McColl I had my teeth fixed at Dr. Loves office before it was a museum, and remember when they put up the memorial at the Town Hall for the people we lost in 84. McColl to the Bone.
